Thursday – Late Start
Every spring, students in grades three through eight and grade eleven take the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments (SBAC) for English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. Results from these assessments are just one piece of information to help teachers, parents/guardians, and students understand how well a student is meeting the grade-level standards.
The testing dates for AVMS this school year will be from Monday, May 9th through Friday, May 20th. Students will be testing in their English and Math classes, and will be on a 4-day testing block schedule (listed below). It is important that your child(ren) have the time necessary to perform at their best on the tests, so please make sure to be on time daily and avoid scheduling any non-necessary appointments that would require your students to miss any part of the school day during the testing dates. Since testing will occur at different times of the school day, maintaining a regular sleep schedule and making sure your students have healthy snacks on-hand will help your student perform at his/her best. In addition 8th graders will take the Science California Standards Test (CST) and 7th Graders will take the Healthy Kids Survey during science on the 3rd and 4th of May.
4 Day Testing Block Schedule 2 Weeks - M, T, W, Fri (May 9th -20th)
Alternating Block Days M,W Periods 2,4,6 T, Fri Periods 1,3,5 – All block periods are approximately105 minutes. Thursday will remain late-start with standard class schedule (Some testing will occur on Thursdays).

2015-2016 Elective information
Aliso Viejo Middle School has launched a new program called “Text-A-Tip” in another effort to keep schools safe. The program provides students with a confidential method to report problems directly to the school administrators.
Text-A-Tip will allow students to use their cell phone to text and report issues such as bullying, depression, fights, drugs, weapons, and any threats relating to campus safety. Via a confidential text, students can detail a problem without the fear of being labeled a “snitch,” “rat,” or “tattletale” by their peers. Posters will be placed around the campus so students will be aware of the program and the phone number for sending their texts.
Texting is a very comfortable way for the youth of today to communicate, and we feel this program will keep the lines of communication open between the students and the school administrators.

This program is not intended for emergency use. In case of an emergency requiring immediate law enforcement response, students should call 911.
Bring your bottles and cans to our recycle bin the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month to help our school. All students turning in recyclable plastic bottles and cans can get a Front of the Line pass, or Free Spin on the Wheel pass, or a Ballpark Pizza coupon. No glass please! All money earned through our recycling goes back toward our school and students!!
Recycling will be accepted every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
