Guidance Department Staff

Welcome to Aliso Viejo Middle School Guidance Department

Mary White, Guidance Secretary/Registrar – mcwhite@capousd.org

If you will be enrolling a student new to our district or are interested in School of Choice for our school, I may be your first contact here at AVMS. I will verify that AVMS is your home school and explain our enrollment procedures. I also maintain records on interdistrict and intradistrict transfers, and School of Choice applications. In addition, I arrange parent/teacher conferences, SST conferences and maintain our student cumulative records, update our student database, and provide clerical assistance to the guidance department.

Sheri Saladow, Academic Advisor – sasaladow@capousd.org

As an academic Advisor at AVMS my duties vary and may include the following: provide information regarding academic planning for high school, register students into classes, participate in parent/teacher/students conferences, coordinate and present orientations for incoming 6th graders, plan and participate in parent orientations, conduct tours of the school for new families to AVMS, ensure that progress reports and grades are processed, assist in the planning of the Master Schedule, and work as part of a team on SBAC testing.  My focus is on the sixth and eighth grade students.

Kathy Westling, Academic Advisor –  kkwestling@capousd.org

As a part time Academic Advisor at AVMS, I am available on Tuesday and Wednesday and in the afternoon on Thursday and the morning on Friday.  I am responsible for working with our guidance team with general intervention analysis and participation in Parent/Teacher/Student conferences throughout the year. My focus is on the seventh grade students.  I also am responsible for the various intervention programs at AVMS, including Math Support classes and Homework Club.  I coordinate and implement a variety of of student recognition events, including Student of the Month, Honor Roll, the Falcon Service Award program, Eighth Grade Awards, and PE Presidential Fitness Awards.

Andrew Fredriksz, Counselor – apfredriksz@capousd.org

As the counselor here at AVMS I provide social and emotional counseling, as well as offer academic encouragement and support. I believe that if a student has a sense of well-being, and can build a solid foundation by learning to be in charge of his/her emotional life, then school and its responsibilities will become a place of fulfillment, success, and ultimately happiness.

Students may request counseling services on a self-referral basis or as a parent, you may contact me if you are concerned about your son or daughter. Conversations between myself and your student are confidential, unless your student discloses information that presents clear and imminent danger to the student or others.  Referrals to outside resources are available.
